Board of Selectmen Meeting Minutes 2026

Public Comments Policy

Add under Public Comments agenda item – The Selectboard welcomes public comment for up to 3 minutes per person.  The Board is not obligated to respond or engage in a discussion.  The Board may consider comments when setting future agendas or conducting Town Business.

1.      A member of the public wishing to make a comment during Public Comment shall wait to be recognized by the Chair, state his/her name for record keeping purposes, and then proceed with the comment.  Each citizen’s input will be limited to approximately (3) minutes and pertain to matters within the authority or responsibility of the Board of Selectmen.  The Public Comment portion of the meeting shall not exceed fifteen (15) minutes unless extended by a majority of the board. The Chair is responsible for maintaining the orderly conduct of the meeting.

2.     Speakers may offer comments on such Town operations and programs as concern them.  Matters involving personnel, pending legal proceedings, or issues that are confidential by law are not appropriate for discussion during Public Comments.  Other channels are provided for Board consideration and disposition of legitimate complaints involving individuals.

3.     Speakers shall conduct themselves in a respectful manner. The Chair may end comments that are disruptive, threatening, profane, or interfere with the orderly conduct of the meeting.

4.     Speakers shall avoid repeating comments already stated in efforts to meet the fifteen (15) minute limit.

5.     Written comments may be distributed to the Board of Selectmen but may not necessarily be read aloud during the meeting’s Public Comments portion.

6.     Public Comment is an opportunity for the Board of Selectmen to hear from residents. It is not intended as dialogue or a question and answer session. Members may choose to clarify factual information or ask for clarification of statements made, but are not obligated to respond. Statements made during Public Comments will not ordinarily result in immediate Board of Selectmen action unless the matter has been properly noticed on the agenda and applicable legal requirements have been met.

7.     The Selectboard reserves the right to take no action on public complaints and suggestions.

Agenda items and time are tentative and subject to change – they are provided for information purposes only. If you wish to be heard by the board, please note the “Public Comment” at the beginning of the meeting to speak about items on the agenda and/or matters pertaining to the business of the Selectmen.  This is a single opportunity for comment, limited to three (3) minutes.  Visitors should not expect a response to their comments or questions since the Board may not have discussed or taken a position on a matter.  Comment is not a two-way dialogue between speakers, Selectmen or the Town Administrator
